Self-Care & Self-Defense Training 2016-11-04T08:56:39+00:00

Frank Blaney believes that it is critical to address our bodies role in maintaining harmony and peace within ourselves and subsequently, in the world. An African Proverb states, “When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.” To truly not be an “enemy within” to ourselves, we must find those healthy activities that work as our personal path of self-care and healing. Qigong, Tai Chi, and Martial Arts have been the path towards healing that Frank has traveled, and his greatest desire is to share these tools with others. A healthy mind, body, and lifestyle are what give us the source strength to achieve our life goals.

Mr. Blaney has recently written a dynamic new book to help others on this path; “Qigong: The Quick and Easy Start-Up Guide.” Frank wrote this book to make the simple self-care modality of Qigong easily accessible to everyday people. This book has many easy Qigong exercises (none of which take more than 7 minutes to complete) with lots of photos and video links. He has done numerous trainings for businesses, non-profit organizations, social workers and counselors, as well as youth of color and victims of violence. He is the founder of Download Qi, a company designed to train communities and organizations with this easy and affordable form of Self-Care:

Besides his certification in Qigong and Tai Chi, Frank has been actively training in marital arts for over 30 years. He is a 2nd degree (“Nidan”) blackbelt and teacher in Jujitsu, and has also trained extensively in Aikido, Filipino Martial Arts (stick and knife fighting), Krav Maga, Wing Chun Kung Fu, MMA, boxing, Capoeira, and most recently Chen Tai Chi Chuan. He has taught numerous students over the years, both in dojos and professionally. He has taught self-defense classes at Santa Monica Community College, in Community Centers, and Women’s Self-Defense programs.

This training is all based upon a solid foundation of a commitment to non-violence. Besides his formal education in Violence Prevention and Peacebuilding, Mr. Blaney has also received a Certificate of Training in Kingian Non-Violence, from Dr. Bernard Lafayette, of the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, University of Rhode Island. Dr. Lafayette was the key trainer for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his mass movement for the advancement of civil rights.
